Post Secret Support

What is it that draws many people to a site that only posts 20 postcards a week? And all week you can only see these same postcards (and perhaps the postcards from the week before). Yet Post Secret is a very popular site.

Perhaps it is because we all love a good juicy secret or perhaps it is because we feel we can relate to these secrets and they secretly (or openly) make us feel less alone. Perhaps it gives us hope to know that we are not the only ones struggling. Or perhaps it is merely because it makes us feel.

I feel like our generations are becoming more and more desensitized, and that scares me. I feel like that this movement will be to our detriment in future generations. Because then we will not truly care about others because we do not know how to. It is at this point that men will be able to destroy the world.

Perhaps I exaggerate. Perhaps. I hope I do really, but as I see the media riddled with sensationalism, I cannot help but think that we will crave more and more to shock us and be disappointed when we truly get that shock.

I’m the first to tell anyone that I hate a love story. But secretly, I love it. I love that happiness can happen even when it feels like it won’t. I love that the right girl gets the right guy. I love it.

But sometimes I’m a cynic.

I’d like to see a movie that ends true to life; the right guy does not always get the right girl. Happiness is not always eminent. The ending is not always clear cut. And love is not always found.

Surely I cannot be the only one that liked Arlington Road. Surely I cannot be the only one that likes a movie where the good guy does not always win and the guy does not always get the girl. Surely?

I love Post Secret because it is real, raw, and still gives me hope for future generations. If so many other people love it because of how real it is and the support it brings, then perhaps all is not lost. Perhaps we can save ourselves.

Perhaps we allow the bullies to win because in the light of all the bad we see, a school bully is like something from an old TV show where back in the day the kids were just kidding around. No harm, no foul.

Too bad today is not like yesterday. And the bullies are real and mean to harm.
