I can totally see that point of view, and don't second guess it at all. The point of view of this particular post was to say that we concern ourselves with how bullying is affecting the victim and what we can do to help the victim or protect them from the bully, but can forget to figure out why the bully is being a bully to begin with. I think both parties need help for different reasons, but as I've tried to do in this blog in general, I'd like to get awareness out to where we can figure out together just what we can or should do for either or both parties to stop this tragedy [bullycide] from occurring. Moreover, just build an awareness so we can take action when we see bullies or victims in these roles.

The problem isn't that they're not helping the bully. The problem is that they're so focused on helping the bully that they forget about the victim. Whenever bullies are taken to task, an army of apologists and enablers pops out of the woodwork, offering excuse after excuse to make sure that the bully is never punished, stopped, or impeded in any way. They're operating on the hoary old myth that bullies are all depressed loners with no self-esteem, who pick on others to feel good about themselves. But where's the evidence or research to support this claim? I've never seen it. I've only heard anecdotes and assertions. And since they believe that only bullies have low self-esteem, they do nothing to help the self-esteem of the kids being victimized.
